The concept of function is easy to understand.<br \/>\nSuppose I say that:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 y=x\u00b2 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>where <strong>x\u2208R.<\/strong>\u00a0This says that y depends on<strong> x<\/strong> this can be said that <strong>y<\/strong> is a function of<strong> x<\/strong>. or<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0y=f(x)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We can also say that <strong>x=\u221ay<\/strong> here x depends on y or x is a function in y or<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 x=f(y) \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>so it can be said that a function is an operator which takes an input and gives an output. The input is called the independent variable while the output is called the dependent variable<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We can also have functions with multi-dimensional outputs. that i will discuss in some other place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of function from our daily life:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.) Suppose you are driving a car, then your location is a function of time. As time changes, your location changes.<\/p>\n<p>2.) volume of a balloon filled with air is<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0V=4\/3\u03a0R\u00b3 \u00a0<\/strong> here volume depends upon the radius of the balloon so&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>we can say that volume is a function of radius<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 V=f(R)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3)The power dissipated by a resistor depends upon input current so we can say that power is a function of input current<br \/>\n<strong> \u00a0 P=f(I)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4) Grades you score in your final (G) exam depends upon the hard work(H.W) input by you so we can say that grade scored is a function of hard word<br \/>\n<strong> \u00a0G=f(H.W)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Functions as Relations- Functions can also be understood as a special type of relations. that means all ordered pairs are relations but all relations are not functions. Functions are a subset of relations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>if we have a function like:<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0f(x)=x+5 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0x\u2208N<br \/>\nthen it means that we can input any natural number for x here.<br \/>\nif x=1 then F(x) or y=1+5=6 similarly we can find much output just by changing values of x.<\/div>\n<div>The combination of values of x and y like (x,y)= (1,6) is called an ordered pair. This helps us to draw the graph of the function. A function can have many inputs for a sing input like<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0f(x)=5 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0x\u2208N<br \/>\nIt\u2019s ordered pairs will be like (1,5),(2,5),(3,5),(4,5),&#8230;&#8230;.all these are with a single output for multiple inputs. But a function can never have more than one output for a single input. ordered pairs like (1,5),(1,6),(1,7)&#8230;..are never possible for a function<\/div>\n<div>Here are some useful PDF for
