IB Maths Tutors in Shanghai
Maths gets the most requests, and it’s easy to see why. The IB now offers two Maths pathways — Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI) — and students often pick one without fully understanding the difference.
AA is the more theoretical route. It leans on proof, algebra and calculus. AI is more applied, with heavier emphasis on statistics, modeling and interpretation. Both are demanding, but they demand different things.

IB Physics Tutors in Shanghai
Physics HL is one of those subjects where the gap between understanding and scoring is widest. A student can understand the concept perfectly and still lose marks — because they didn’t state the assumption, didn’t include units, or didn’t explain the direction of a force.
The current IB Physics syllabus is organized around five broad themes: Space, time and motion; The particulate nature of matter; Wave behavior; Fields; and Nuclear and quantum physics. Each theme is explored through three concepts that run through the whole course: forces, energy and particles.

In Physics specifically, one of the most common mark-losing patterns is a student who knows the physics but answers a slightly different question from the one asked. IB Chemistry Tutors in Shanghai
Chemistry sits between Physics and Biology in terms of what trips students up. The content is large, and the mark schemes are unforgiving about terminology.
The IB Chemistry syllabus was restructured for the first assessment in 2025. It’s now built around two organizing concepts: Structure and Reactivity. The core idea is that structure determines how matter reacts, and chemical reactions in turn transform that structure. The old topic-by-topic approach — including the optional topics and Paper 3 — has been replaced.
The Structure theme covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. The Reactivity theme covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast reactions proceed, and the mechanisms of chemical change.
