Whenever students in my classroom or in tutoring sessions say they don’t understand my explanation, I ask them to repeat what I said. Most of the time, they are unable to repeat my statement because they missed what I told them. This observation shows that if you are not a good listener, you will find it difficult to understand things in the classroom and in online tutoring sessions. So, make it a habit to really focus on what your tutor is saying—it’s the fastest way to bridge the gap between “knowing” and “understanding.

Real learning happens when you look beyond your notes. Sometimes a student just waits for the teacher to finish the lesson. Instead, try to think about how the topic works in real life. If you are stuck on a hard math problem, do not just sit there. Ask your tutor to show you a different way to solve it. A good learner stays curious even after the class ends. This helps you understand the concept deeply rather than just memorize it.

While in class, try to clear your head of outside distractions and give your full attention to the lesson at hand. Concentrating on the topic will help us listen and understand better, which will definitely make us better classroom learners. One must be able to share their views to become a Good Learner. In the same way, learners shouldn’t hesitate to share their knowledge with their teachers. They should not think that others will mock them if they are wrong. Fear of being wrong should be dropped before entering the classroom. The thought of fear of being mocked can destroy your learning more than anything else. Learners should be ready to ask questions when facing problems. At the same time, try to pick the right moment to ask your question so the rest of the class can keep following the lesson smoothly.

Perhaps this is the most important part of a learner’s profile. He/she must complete his/her homework and get it checked on time by the instructors or the online tutors. This must be done regularly. All the assignments/worksheets should be submitted on time and in a proper format. This helps you catch mistakes early and gives you a much clearer path toward your final exams.

When we start our new session as learners and enter the classroom, we should be determined to complete our learning goals. Problems may occur, and our strategies to counter them may change. But one thing should be stable all the time: our determination to complete our learning goals.

The classroom is a place for everyone to grow together. You can learn a lot by listening to the questions other students ask. When someone else is struggling, try to explain the point in your own words. This helps your friend and strengthens your own knowledge. Always stay humble and open to new ideas from anyone in the room. A great learner knows that every person in the class has something valuable to share.
